Various natural attractions have their name from their special features like the Towers of Astraka.
You will admire the Towers of Astraka when you go to the famous village of Papingo in Zagorochoria. The view from the village of Aristi, one of the most famous Zagorochoria in Epirus, is equally beautiful. This is a special formation from the Tymfi Mountains at the point where the peak of Astraka is located. That's how they got their name and it is called Astraka Towers.
Indeed, these magnificent rocks cast their shadow on Little Papingo village and make you speechless with their beauty. As for Astraka itself, it is said that its name means "roof" and was given to it precisely because it stands like a roof over the village.
There are two mountaineering routes for the summit of Astraka. One begins from a little lower location than the refuge and goes vertically up the steep slope. The second, on the other hand, starts from the refuge and is gentler. If you like mountaineering, whatever you choose, you will get the best impressions and you will remember these routes for a lifetime.
