The secret earthly paradise of Crete

The island of Crete and its innumerable beauties never fail to captivate the visitor. Among the most unknown "diamonds" of the island to the general public is the secret earthly paradise of Lassithi.

It is located in the small gorge of Richtis, on the northern side of the prefecture between Agios Nikolaos and Sitia, with the reference point of the waterfall of the same name. The path for its crossing starts from the village Exo Mouliana and has a total length of 3 km, which is crossed in 3-4 hours.

Along the way, the visitor discovers a dreamy oasis in eastern Crete with plane trees, oleanders, sage and other aromatic plants that add natural beauty to the already impressive surroundings. In various places there are actually old water mills and stone bridges, imprints of the past.

The gorge takes its name from the waterfall of Richtis - in Cretan dialect, the word Richtis means waterfall - whose water cascades down from a height of 20 meters, forming a small pond at its foot. The most daring do not hesitate to take an icy dip in its cold waters, while the rest enjoy the incomparably beautiful natural landscape from the bench next to the lake.

The route ends at the pebble beach of Richtis, with the small forest of tamarisk trees.
