Kastos. The enchanting beauty of the smallest island in the Ionian Sea
Kastos is one of the smallest islands in the Ionian Sea. Its location is 6 miles from Mytikas Etoloakarnania, with the nearest port to Central Greece, and one mile from Kalamos.
Kastos is the smallest habitable island in Ionian Sea and was annexed by Greece in 1864. It belonged to the province of Ithaca in the prefecture of Lefkada. Until 1950 it had a population of 285 inhabitants. On this small island there was only one primary school.
Today it belongs administratively to the prefecture of Lefkada. Even in 2011 the population of the island was almost 78 inhabitants according to the census.
It is one of the most picturesque islands of Greece with a unique settlement of the same name which is located in the port of the village and around which beautiful houses in traditional architecture have been built.
