Severe Flooding Strikes Paros, Hailstorm Batters Syros
Heavy rainfall unleashed chaos across several Greek islands on Monday afternoon, transforming the streets of Naousa, Paros, into raging torrents that swept away cars. The violent storm prompted Greece’s civil protection authority to issue an emergency alert, urging residents to avoid all road travel.
Meteorologists had warned of intense weather, but the downpour that struck Paros exceeded expectations. Hours of relentless rain led to severe flooding, landslides, and widespread damage, rendering parts of the island’s road network impassable. Dramatic footage captured vehicles being carried away by the surging waters.

Authorities have mobilized reinforcements from Athens and the neighboring island of Naxos to assist in the aftermath. An emergency message sent via Greece’s 112 alert system warned: “Vehicle movement on the road network of Paros is prohibited due to severe weather conditions. Emergency vehicles are exempt.”
Meanwhile, Syros, which enjoyed clear skies in the morning, was hit by a sudden and intense hailstorm just after 3 p.m., adding to the day’s extreme weather across the Cyclades.
