See the "Greece" metro station in... Chile!

Chile pays tribute to Ancient Greece, as from March 7 the metro station called Grecia (Greece) in the capital Santiago is adorned with an exhibition of copies of ancient Greek culture.

The station, which carries an estimated 22,000 passengers a day, features 23 carefully crafted replicas made of plaster, copper and silver that depict Greek themes that are emblematic of Western culture.

Among them are democracy and arts, while exhibits include a replica of Homer's head, portraits of athletes, a boxing statuette and theatre masks.

The set-up of this exhibition, which is one of the first attempts to operate an "antiquities museum" in Chile, is strongly reminiscent of the corresponding exhibition that passengers see at the "Acropolis" stop of the Athens metro.

The donation was made by the Greek Ministry of Culture at the initiative of the Chilean Embassy in Greece, the Greek Embassy in Chile and with the support of the Directorate of Cultural Relations of the Chilean Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Gabriel and Maria Moustakis Foundation.
