We are talking about Lake Ziros in the Prefecture of Preveza. In a place of special natural beauty, which lately is becoming more and more famous, especially among the inhabitants of the surrounding prefectures. Lake Zirou has its own special beauty in every season, as you encounter and see a different beauty from a different perspective. What is certain is that winter is something different.
What you do not know about Lake Ziros
You can find this beautiful lake about 2 km west of the Arta - Filippiada - Ioannina provincial road, opposite the municipality of Pantanassa Arta. It is a medium-sized lake with an area of about 900 × 600 meters. On the northern shore of the lake, the direct depth of the rocks is 9 meters. The water temperature ranges from 9 to 21 degrees Celsius in all seasons.
Its formation is also interesting. According to scientists, the formation of the lake seems to be due to the tectonic activity of the area. It is significant that geologists consider the most likely scenario that Lake Ziros was once a lake cave. However, it is estimated that the roof of this cave collapsed about 10,000 years ago. It is also interesting to note that the underground aquifer of the lake is the same as that of the Louros River, so the two water systems communicate in some way.
The beauty of the lake and its importance as an ecosystem is objective. It was officially recognized in 1999. At that time Lake Zirou joined the Natura 2000 program and its exploitation began.
