Amorgos is located at the southeastern tip of the Cyclades, between Naxos, the Small Cyclades and Astypalaia.
It combines the wild and mountainous landscape with the endless blue of the Aegean Sea. The island, which became widely known from Luc Besson’s 1998 film “The Big Blue”, has two natural ports, Katapola in the center and Aegiali in the north. The island’s capital is called Chora. Take a stroll in the narrow cobblestone streets with the whitewashed churches and the magnificent two-story mansions. The famous stone sidewalk “Loza” and the historic Castle, which dominates the rock, impress the visitors.
The Byzantine Monastery of Panagia Chozoviotissa is rich in historical heirlooms and stands out for its architecture. It is one of the oldest monasteries in Greece and is built on a steep cliff 300 meters above sea level. Although getting to it requires some effort, the visitors will certainly be rewarded by the stunning view.
The island has several beautiful beaches. Agia Anna is 3 km from Chora, while Kalotaritissa Beach is 23 km away; known for their golden sand and clear waters. Petal-shaped Aegiali beach is known for its various shades of blue, its fine sand and its crystal clear waters, while Paradisia beach is a little paradise, as locals will tell you. Amorgos is also an ideal hiking destination with its stunning natural landscapes.
