Kimolos is a beautiful island with this peculiarity in the way its settlements were organized. Since ancient times, the island was a "Monopolis" and had only one settlement. Just like today, it has only one village.

Now there are some smaller settlements that are inhabited only during the summer months. They are small settlements filled with people who have their houses on the island and come for a few days or a month or two. Such are Psathi, Prasa, Aliki and Bonatsa.

Another peculiarity in the one and central village on the hill is that there is no what we call a large and central square. On the contrary, one encounters many and small ones, one of which stands out, but without being the central one. Moreover, the visitor's eye is attracted by the medieval castle on the top of the hill. Famous in Kimolos is also the cobblestone main street, called Agora by locals and tourists. Because that's exactly what it is. A street which is full of shops and a very nice atmosphere. Where you will experience romantic summer nights away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Anyone who has visited it definitely understands.

What not to miss on the island

The Greek island "Monopolis" can boast of its sights, some of which are very original and even created by Mother Nature. One of them is the famous and impressive "mushroom", the so-called Skiadi. This is undoubtedly the deposit of Kimolos. It is a very rare natural monument located to the west of Sklavos hill in the northern part of Kimolos. It is a huge stone "mushroom" that owes its formation to the different rocks that make it up.

Another impressive thing on the island is also the famous "Syrmata". You can see them at the southern exit of the settlement of Goupa. These are the beautiful and very special caves that are carved into the soft rock. It is the place where the boats of the fishermen are kept and they have their own long history.
