The park with the laws of physics of Aristotle was created in the birthplace of the great Greek philosopher in Stageira and is visited by more than 15,000 students in the summer months.
The ancient Greek philosopher, Aristotle, was born in 384 BC in Stagira in Halkidiki. He did not live long in his hometown, but the next generations made sure to highlight the work and personality of the great philosopher and teacher of Alexander the Great in a special way.
At an altitude of 500 meters, the theme park in Chalkidiki is located. It bears the name "Grove of Aristotle" to honor the great philosopher who was born in Ancient Stageira, while the area has been adorned with a majestic statue of the philosopher since 1956. The inventions which are housed in the grove were placed in 2003. They are experimental inventions that function on the basis of the laws of nature mentioned in the writings of Aristotle and in particular in his work "Physics". With this addition, the "Aristotle Grove" has become a destination for school trips as it combines entertainment and education. It is estimated that it receives more than 15,000 visitors during the summer months.
The experimental items are as follows:
Lens
The plate next to the lens informs us that each photon, which is an elementary amount of light energy, has a minimum energy by itself, but when it all comes together at one point, that energy becomes very large.
Compass
It stands in front of the statue of Aristotle, symbolizing that his philosophy has reached all parts of the world and is the starting point of modern scientific thought, universal and the property of mankind. It shows the direction and distance of the most famous cities in the world in relation to the grove.
Optical disks
When images pass in front of our field of vision at high speed, the human eye does not perceive them as different, but there is a continuous visual set, as when we watch a movie. This is because the image continues to exist for about 1/16th of a second due to the inactivity of the optic nerve. This ability of the eye is called translucence.
Hydroturbine
A vortex is created in the transparent container with the liquid by turning the lever. This is how the dynamics of the phenomenon are understood, drawing a parallel with the rotational movement of air in a tornado.
Spheres of inertia
When playing with the inertial spheres, the phenomenon of momentum transfer is felt when, as the spheres bounce, the original momentum is maintained and it is transferred through all the spheres, in turn, reaching the last one each time.
Solar watch
The large horizontal sundial shows the exact time where you are. In summer there is a difference of 1 hour and 25 minutes from the current time, in winter the difference is 25 minutes. The curved lines on the clock face are there to help you determine the current month.
