In a bid to deepen defense ties, Egypt and Greece reaffirmed their commitment to closer naval collaboration during a high-level meeting held in Alexandria on Sunday.
Egyptian Vice Admiral Ashraf Ibrahim Atwa Megahed, Commander of the Egyptian Navy, hosted Chief of the Hellenic Navy General Staff, Vice Admiral Dimitrios-Eleftherios Kataras, who is leading a Greek delegation on an official visit to Egypt.
According to a statement from Egypt’s Ministry of Defense, discussions focused on enhancing joint naval cooperation, building on an already strong defense partnership between the two nations.
As part of the visit, the Greek delegation toured several Egyptian naval units, gaining insight into Egypt’s advanced training systems and modern weaponry. They also visited the Alexandria Shipyard Company—one of the largest shipbuilding and maintenance facilities in the Middle East.
This meeting follows the multinational military drill Medusa-13, which took place in Greece in December 2024. The exercise included forces from Egypt, Greece, Cyprus, France, and Saudi Arabia, with additional observers from Italy, Bahrain, Rwanda, Bulgaria, and Morocco.
Medusa-13 featured a wide array of joint training scenarios, including live-fire drills, air and naval combat simulations, special operations, and unconventional warfare exercises. The operation showcased the growing interoperability and strategic coordination among the participating nations’ armed forces, the Egyptian Ministry of Defense noted.
