It has almost 1000 inhabitants and is a lively and beautiful village built near Katerini. Dion is now just a village but was once a city of strategic importance and one of the most famous states of Greek Macedonian. After all, its geographical position is no coincidence.

The village is first mentioned in the writings of Thucydides in 424 BC. It is believed that the city was founded by the Perraivs of Thessaly in honor of Zeus (according to the claims of the historian Dimitsas). The name of the city means Zeus. The village was called Malathria until 1961, and this name was taken from the plant Marathos, which lived in this area.
