Easter preparations during the Holy Week make the perfect period to visit Santorini. Easter is an important celebration in Greece all around, and especially in the islands, where all the customs revive. The locals begin to white-wash their houses and the churches so as to welcome the guests. During Easter you can taste some seasonal delicacies, like tsourekia [they are similar to brioche] and melitinia [sweet local pastries with cheese].
During Holy Week there are many things you can engage into. Just before Holy Saturday night, Holy Friday is also of great importance. You can visit any picturesque village of the island. The locals prepare the epitaph and then it passes along the small streets of Santorini. If you spend Holy Friday in Pyrgos village, you will see the small lamps and candles spread all over the village.
