Users of the Reddit platform shared their opinions on destinations that surprised them with how much they impressed them, even though they hadn't expected much before visiting. These destinations completely changed their perception once they experienced them in person.
Among their top 12, they included famous spots that attract millions of visitors year-round, such as Paris, but also a Greek island that has won over many visitors – a place that those who visit it often find themselves returning to at some point in their lives.
As reported by the DailyMail, the list was created after a Reddit user asked the question of which destination "completely shattered their expectations." The response was overwhelming, and through the online discussion, a list emerged of destinations that surprised visitors in the most delightful ways.
Destinations that made the list:
Gdańsk, Poland: The seaside Polish city of Gdańsk exceeded all expectations for many travelers. "For me, it was Gdańsk in Poland. I went there just for a couple of days as a stopover before Paris because it was cheaper than flying directly. I ended up loving it. It's affordable, has excellent public transport, history, museums, an old town, and trips to nearby areas," wrote a Reddit user.
"Gdańsk is fantastic. So much interesting history, and the old town is a pleasure to walk through. One of my favorite cities," added another user in response.

San Sebastián, Spain: The coastal city of San Sebastián in Spain's Basque Country certainly deserves a spot on your list, according to "Wizdomeleven," who noted: "It blew us away. The food, the old town, the wonderful hikes. Clear ocean waves on a beautiful crescent-shaped beach."
Another user commented: "The coastline in the Basque Country is crazy. I loved hiking on the cliffs by the coast. When the tide is low, there are so many little pools with the most interesting and diverse sea life – like little aquariums beneath your feet, full of all sorts of sea creatures and seaweed."
Crete, Greece: As mentioned earlier, the list also includes a Greek touch, with Reddit users placing Crete among the destinations that pleasantly surprised them.
"We went to Crete in January. It was amazing, the weather was great, everything was open, and everyone was incredibly friendly," wrote one user sharing their experience on the Greek island. "We went in early May, and it was stunning! Everything was lush and full of life," added another.
