It was also ranked among the 20 most beautiful islands in Greece
The island of Ios has been making headlines in international media for offering a perfect blend of exploration and relaxation.
A special mention came from Forbes.com, which included this picturesque Cycladic island in its 2025 list of the world’s best travel destinations. The report praised Ios as an off-the-beaten-path destination that remains easily accessible from Athens.
But what truly sets Ios apart is Manganari Beach, known for its golden sands and crystal-clear turquoise waters. Recognized as the most beautiful beach in the Cyclades and the fifth-best in Greece, it was highlighted by Travel.TheWom.it, a leading Italian travel website specializing in sustainability and alternative tourism.
Additionally, the French travel guide Petit Fute ranked Ios among the 20 most beautiful Greek islands, based on the preferences of French travelers. The guide describes Ios as a place that has evolved from a party hotspot for young travelers to a destination attracting visitors eager to explore its natural beauty, cultural and historical sites, charming villages, rugged landscapes, and secluded beaches—especially during off-peak months.
Ios Embraces a New Era of Tourism
Commenting on the island’s transformation, Antonis Mettos, President of the Ios Tourism Committee, stated:
"Our tourism strategy focuses on two key areas: extending the travel season by promoting the island’s many diverse experiences beyond the peak months and strengthening its international appeal through alternative activities, gastronomy, culture, and modern hospitality services. Over the past few years, Ios has been evolving, a change noticed by both Greek and international visitors. Our promotional efforts continue to highlight this new identity in both domestic and global media."
Growing Popularity Among International Travelers
According to ferry booking data from Ferryhopper, Ios ranked 7th among the 10 most popular Greek islands for international travelers in 2024, based on passenger traffic recorded between January and December.
As Ios continues to gain recognition worldwide, it’s clear that this once-hidden gem is now shining brighter than ever.
