While Santorini is primarily considered a summer destination, it remains one of the few Greek islands that attract tourists year-round. Many people choose to visit during weekends with good weather or holidays like Easter to enjoy a change of scenery.
However, recent seismic activity in the area, along with rumors of potential volcanic activity, has caused widespread concern. As a result, up to 9,000 permanent residents have reportedly left the island.
A key question now is how this situation will affect tourism. The fact that seismic activity in the Cyclades is making international headlines certainly doesn’t help. Another important question is how much accommodation prices have dropped for those still considering a trip to Santorini next weekend.
Accommodation Prices Amid Seismic Concerns
After reviewing booking platforms, it appears that while there hasn’t been a dramatic drop in prices, there are notable discounts in certain accommodations—some up to 40%. However, many hotels haven’t adjusted their rates, likely assuming that few people would choose Santorini for a leisure getaway under the current circumstances.
In fact, it seems some establishments are expecting that most visitors will be there for professional reasons, such as journalists covering the situation, which could present an opportunity for them to maintain or even increase prices.
For the weekend of February 8–9, accommodation prices vary depending on the location and type of lodging, with some significant deals available for those willing to visit despite the ongoing seismic activity.
We checked the prices, and they range from €40 to €130 per night.
