A Heraklion fisherman stumbled upon an extraordinary sight a few days ago in the Linoperamata area. While fishing at a depth of about 25 meters, he discovered parts of a military aircraft in his nets—likely from World War II—something that had never been found before!
Upon his discovery, the Heraklion Port Authority was immediately notified. Using a crane, the wreckage of the old aircraft was recovered, and the process of assessing the findings began to determine their next steps.
As Heraklion Port Authority Captain Nikos Tsobanis informed us, a team from the Ministry of Culture, in collaboration with the Air Force, is evaluating the discovery. They will decide where to transfer the aircraft remains, which consist of two wings without the fuselage.
