Greece has hundreds of villages, in the mountains and on the coast, each with its own history.
Of course, some of them stand out, such as a Greek village that only comes out of the lake when it doesn't rain for days. This is the settlement of Kallio with its special history.
The settlement of Kallio is located in Fokida. In fact, it used to be located at the place where the artificial lake was created in 1980 due to the construction of the Mornos Dam. For this reason, the village was moved to another place above the shores of the lake.
Thus, it was decided to move the Greek village of Kallio to another location, above the shores of the lake. As a result, the old settlement was covered by the waters of the lake. It is noteworthy, however, that the village of Kallio was not submerged forever.
In fact, it reveals itself every time it doesn't rain for several days. Whenever the level of the lake drops due to drought, part of the village emerges from the water.
However, when it rains, the village disappears again under the waters of the lake. Until 1916, the village was called Velouchovo. This new name came from the neighboring ancient city of Kallipoli.
After excavations in the sunken village of Kallio, many finds from the ancient settlement were found, such as a cemetery, sanctuaries and a theater. However, the images, every time it does not rain for days, are impressive.
