Asteris: The Homeric and dazzling Ionian Island

One of them is Asteris or Arkoudi. An island known since ancient times and called the Homeric Island. The small island of Asteris has turquoise waters and is green. If you get there by boat, the swimming experience will be unforgettable. You will swim in crystal clear water where you can even swim alone.

The island of Asteris or Arkoudi is located between Sami and Ithaca. It is an island of dazzling and rare beauty in front of the Ionian Sea. It is an island of the Televoides Islands complex and is actually considered the most beautiful of all the others. This uninhabited island has a great history and past. It is no coincidence that it is called the Homeric island and its history has continued in the following centuries.

According to researchers, the Homeric island Asteris is actually the place where Telemachus found refuge when he was pursued by his mother's suitors. Another peculiarity is that it is the only island in the area that has two similar harbours. It is therefore said that Telemachus' ship sailed east from Arkoudi and headed for the first shore. Historians say that he sailed with great ease before the suitors and escaped.
