Hidden in a green landscape, in an idyllic setting, a small, beautiful and not so well known village emerges. A Greek village that hides a special story behind its name, as is the case with other villages in Greece.
The traditions and stories of the inhabitants are of special interest. So this happens with Klafsi, it is a mountain village in the prefecture of Evritania. If you are in Evritania, it is worth a walk from this village and the surrounding neighborhoods.
Klafsi, which is also called Klapsi, is a mountain settlement. Tradition says that this name comes from “klafthmos” which means cry in Greek. It is said that the tears of the inhabitants who once survived the terrible destruction of the village, probably by the Gauls of Breno in 279 BC, were shed. The village is situated at the foot of Mount Koniskos, which is also unknown to many. It lies on the east bank of the river Karpenisiotis.
There is the church of Martyr Leonidis, which is the only one excavated in Evritania from the early Christian period. It is a temple monument from the 5th century. From the Greek village Klafsi you have a unique view of the valley of Potamia or the river Karpenisioti and the mountain of Helidona.

If you don't know the village of Klafsi yet, maybe Megalo Chorio of Evritania will remind you of something. This is a village known for its natural beauty and architecture. As you walk through the alleys, you will see cobbled streets and well-preserved buildings from another era. What will fascinate you is the combination that the unique natural landscape offers with the traditional style of the settlement. An additional feature of the village is the stone fountains that you will encounter again and again during your walk.
