It is undoubtedly one of the diamonds of Attica that will enchant you all year round.
If you haven't been to Lake Beletsi in summer, you haven't enjoyed the coolness of the trees, while in winter the scenery turns into an alpine landscape. Something similar happened this year with the snowfall at Parnitha. The beautiful Lake Beletsi was dressed in white and was like a fairy tale.
So in the settlement of Hippocrates State, there is Lake Beletsi. A lake at an altitude of 600 meters, which is a favorite destination of the inhabitants of Attica. It is located on the eastern slopes of Parnitha and specifically in the area of Agia Triada of the municipality of Afidnes, northwest of the peak of the same name Beletsi. When you get there, the certainty is that the landscape and the beauty of the place will leave you speechless.
Lake Beletsi is not very big, but its size does not correspond to its beauty. To be more precise, the lake has a maximum diameter of about 130 meters and a maximum depth of 9 meters. The total area reaches 7,000 square meters. What many don't know, even if they have visited it, is that the lake was actually created by accident. It was created in the 70s by a construction error. It happened when the infrastructure of the area was repaired and the river beds were closed with dams. At that point, the water in the area began to back up and that's how the lake was created.
Parnitha also has many open places for children to play and run around. You will stop at nice benches and fountains to quench your thirst, and in general, you will spend your day in nature and at the same time so close to Athens. A recommended destination at any time of the year, depending on the circumstances.
It is called Lake Kithara(Guitar) because its shape resembles the famous musical instrument, especially when you look at it from above. Lake Beletsi is the destination chosen by Athenians in winter - summer because on one hand it is very close to the capital and on the other hand it gives you the feeling of being far away from everyday life.
