Besides the volcano of Santorini, the volcano on Nisyros also has a special history. It is the youngest active volcano in Greece.

In the youngest active volcano in Greece, which was silent for more than 110 years, research and studies were carried out. These showed that its oldest rocks are not older than 150,000 years. In other words, think that 60,000 years ago today, there were hundreds of small explosions that built a cone that rose about 600 meters above the sea and was about the circumference of today's Nisyros.
