The palm forest of Preveli is located below the monastery of Preveli, at the mouth of the Kourtaliótiko gorge. Behind the beach is an extensive forest of the endemic Cretan date palm Phoenix theophrastii. This is the second largest palm forest in Crete after Vai in the Far East of the island.
According to a tradition of the area, the Vai palm tree was created when Arab pirates arrived in the area with their boats, ate the dough they had brought with them from North Africa and threw the pits into the soil.
The Palm Tree counts over 5,000 palms. At the end there is an exotic beach with turquoise waters, fine sand and pebbles. All this combined with the palm trees give visitors the impression that they are on an exotic beach.
Enjoy the flight!
