Located at Papigko, Zagorochoria and at an altitude of 2.050 m., the mythical “dragon lake” or "Drakolimni" of Tymfi lies among Aoos and Voidomatis river and promises to offer you images of rare beauty.
According to the legend, it owes its name to a dragon, a huge creature which is believed to have found its natural habitat within this lake- and which is in constant conflict with another dragon...that of mountain Smolikas -the second highest mountain on Greek land after Mount Olympus-. The two dragons are said to throw stones to one another and this is the reason, according to the legend, that the shores of Tymfi Lake are black with white stones and respectively, the shores of Smolikas lake are white with black stones.
