When you hear the word Pelion, beautiful picturesque villages with characteristic local architecture, nestled in the rich and green vegetation of the Mountain of the Centaurs, readily come to mind.

In recent years, however, Pelion begins to attract the attention of visitors in the spring and summer, with its coastal settlements maintaining undiminished interest. Among them is the small village of Damouchari, whose fame is much greater than its size.

Built around a small, picturesque harbor, is the port of Mouresi, in the northeastern part of Pelion. The small traditional fishing settlement is an ideal choice for quiet and relaxing moments, in a wonderful natural environment "embraced" by the waters of the Aegean Sea.

It consists of two bays surrounded by a green hill with lush and wild vegetation. A picturesque harbor in the north and a white pebble beach in the southern part of the village, also known as Palia Damouchari. Between these two bays there is a small hill with ruins of the walls of a medieval Venetian castle.

The village became known to the world public when part of the filming of the famous movie Mamma Mia, starring Meryl Streep, took place in it. Much earlier, however, in July 1974, it was also a popular holiday destination for the film actress Romi Snyder, famous for her beauty, which became known to the general public since the role of Princess Sissy.

In the northern bay of Damouchari there are tavernas, beautiful houses - about 20-30 in total, most of them inhabited only in the summer months - and the port (formerly the only one in the eastern Pelion) of the settlement.

The village is connected to most of the Pelion's main roads, while from Palia Damouchari starts the impressive ancient path that leads to the main village of Tsagarada and the beach of Fakistra, one of the most remote and special of the Pelion.
