Wedding from the time of 1821, in Porta Panagia (video-photo)

Following the traditions of 1821, the wedding of Apostolos Costarellos and his beloved Arianna, originally from the Ural Mountains of Russia, took place on Tuesday afternoon at the Byzantine Church of Porta Panagia.

The groom started from his village, Gorgogiri, as an armatolos (warrior with weapons), dressed in traditional costume and riding a horse, he arrived with his friends, after a 3-hour walk to the temple.

There he greeted the bride, who arrived in a carriage of the time. This was followed by the performance of the Holy Mystery in the presence of a few guests, due to the restrictions that were in place because of the coronavirus.
