At the place where Laconia meets Arcadia is a village unknown to the public, which by its name alone inspires awe and a little fear, you might say.

The reason for Leontari, which owes its name not to the "king" of the jungle, as one would expect, but probably, as one assumes, to a man named Leontaris or Leontarios who moved to the area in the time of Alexios Komnenos. It is worth mentioning that the wider area belonged to one of the most important Frankish baronies, the so-called Beligosti.

It is a small and picturesque historical village with few inhabitants, beautiful stone houses with red-tiled roofs and picturesque cobblestone streets. It is located 12 km from Megalopolis and is the Kefalochori of the wider area. In its main features the Byzantine churches of the village with the most important of all, that of Agios Apostolos in the central square, which dates back to the 14th century.

The other attractions that arouse the interest of visitors in Leontari are the springs of Evrotas and the old railway station, which dates back to 1899 and is considered one of the most beautiful in the Peloponnese.
