Monemvasia Castle: Night photos that look like a painting

When you look at the photos with the sky full of stars from Monemvasia, you think you are in a fairy tale, but in fact, it is neither a fairy tale, nor a scene from a movie, nor a painting.

It is one of the most impressive and perhaps the most enchanting castle in Greece. More precisely, it is the castle of Monemvasia.

Monemvasia got its name from the compounds "Moni" and "Emvasis", which means "alone" and "entrance", because the gate to enter the castle town of Monemvasia is one and only. Especially if you choose the land access.

Over the years, Monemvasia has changed its name. For example, it used to be called "Louloudi" which means "Flower". This name came from the fact that in spring the rocky, dry soil of the cliff is filled with wildflowers, creating a variety of colors and aromas in a unique way. Apart from the spring season, another special moment to be in Monemvasia and its castle is the night.

Especially when there is a clear sky to see this greatness. If you happen to approach the rock of Monemvasia from the sea during your trip, you will see scenery that will be unforgettable forever. The small and charming medieval town can be seen in all its glory, on the rock with its walls that slope steeply towards the sea.

From the mainland, however, the castle town cannot be seen. From above, you can clearly see a strip of land and a 130-meter bridge that connects the rock of Monemvasia with the land of Laconia. Just before the bridge, the new town of Monemvasia appears. From this side, the imposing rock of Monemvasia seems to be uninhabited.
