The seven leaders, taking into account the conclusions of the recent European Council, expressed regret that Turkey has not responded to the EU’s repeated calls to end its unilateral and illegal actions in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Aegean.

French President Emmanuel Macron called for a resumption of dialogue without blackmail and threats, and used particularly sharp language, saying that Turkey was no longer a partner in the eastern Mediterranean.

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis stressed that Turkey is openly moving away from international law and destabilizing the eastern Mediterranean, while Cypriot President Nikos Anastasiades called on Ankara for an honest dialogue.

At the same time, during their one-on-one meeting, Emanuel Macron and Kyriakos Mitsotakis, were in complete agreement regarding the central strategy towards Turkey, as well as the bilateral defense cooperation between their two countries.

“Provocations must stop so that discussions could begin, otherwise the way is open for sanctions,” is the message conveyed by the two leaders at their meeting in Corsica.
