Snow-covered Plastira Lake: experience the fairytale scenery through breathtaking photos
The landscape of Lake Plastira is something special, and one could say that it does not seem to be in Greece. And yet Lake Plastira, which is beautiful in every season, has unique beauties even when it snows.
The lake is located on the plateau of Nevropolis, in the prefecture of Karditsa. It is artificial and its official name is Lake Tavropou.
It was created in 1959 with the completion of the dam on its southern part at the beginning of the Tavropos or Megdova River. The idea for its construction was attributed to the military officer and politician Nikolaos Plastiras when, during a visit to his birthplace in 1935, catastrophic floods occurred in the region and the rest of Greek Macedonia due to the continuous rains.
After seeing the destruction of the area, he said: "One day this place here will become a lake", and so this lake took its name.
