Cultural museum
The operation of Historic - Cultural Museum of Antiparos starts in summer 2016 with significant references to Aegean culture, such as ancient coins, authentic engravings from the cave of Antiparos and one of the most significant libraries of Cyclades.
Food
Antiparos is famous for its fresh fish and many octopuses, goats and wild rabbits. Also it is famous for its cheeses and more specifically xinomizithra and of course for its local wine and tsikoudia. Traditional dishes such as “Cockerel patido ”you will enjoy in many traditional tavernas.
Cave
The arched entrance of the cave has 20m. breadth and about 3m. height. The huge stalagmite located in the entrance is one of the oldest in Europe and it dates back 45 million years. When you go down the 411 steps to the heart of the cave with breadth of more than 100m., the emotions that are alternating are awe, unique excitement and admiration. The cave covers an area of 5.600 s.m. Its temperature in winter is about 15oC and humidity reaches 65%. The cave was opened with limestone from corrosion. The entrance was opened in the beginning and later on with the accumulation and pressure of great amount of water its lower part was opened as well. The water that remained in its interior opened sewers and chasms. After the evacuation from waters its decoration began with slow pace from drop flow.
Natural beauties – Trails
In Antiparos, visitors can also enjoy the island’s touring with a small ship as it can approach sea caves, see steep beaches and discover enchanting emerald bays, except of walks in Chora, the Castle and the route to the cave and Ais Giorgis. For nature lovers, the ideal proposal is the trails of the island. From the ferry boats up to the 3rd Psaraliki visitors can follow the coastline and discover the 3 nearby beaches. From Sifneiko to the camping and ending in Agios Spiridonas is a beautiful route, easy, lasting one hour and offered for the whole family. Another easy route is the one from Sifneiko up to Stavros. The trail ends in the top of the mountain in 91 meters with panoramic view of the whole settlement.
Castle
Close to the square of “chora” we find the only entrance, a gate of Gothic style, of the Venetian castle. It is the only preservable castle that is currently inhabited. It is not a simple fortification work but an organized urban planning complex, one of the most interesting medieval settlements in the Aegean. It was constructed in 1440 when the islands possession passed to Maria Sommaripa and her husband Lorentano. A walk in the medieval castle of Antiparos fills you with emotion, as life in this point exists almost 500 years non stop. You can feel the time’s breath and distinguish and admire the Cycladic architecture.
Beaches - Sea Sports
Antiparos is surrounded by excellent beaches. From the one side, calm waters with golden beaches and from the other side sheer rocks with caves sculpted by the open sea and winds. Diving, wind surfing, kite surfing, hiking, mountain biking, are only few of the activities offered in the island, while in the south, Epitafios is waiting for you to discover its morphological interest. With easy access from the settlement, just 5 minutes on foot, you can find the following beaches: 1st and 2nd Psaraliki, Panagia (3rd Psaraliki), Sifneiko or Sun Set Beach which you can get on foot from the square (500m.), or even with car. Also Agios Spiridonas, the beach of Kalargirou, and the Camping beach with clear blue waters that surprise visitors.
